Measuring the flow of low-viscosity fluids is very suitable for small turbine flow meters, such as Titan's 800, 900 or 1000 series.

Using the Pelton wheel, the turbine flowmeter works well at low viscosity, has a low instantaneous pressure loss, and has the characteristics of not changing significantly with small changes in liquid properties. The low-end performance of the small turbine flowmeter will actually increase as the viscosity decreases, so the Reynolds number increases, so that the device works at a lower fluid velocity in the turbulent area.

On the other hand, positive displacement flow meters, such as Titan's oval gear flow meters, can effectively handle higher viscosity liquids. The accuracy of the oval gear flowmeter depends on the viscosity of the liquid. The higher the viscosity, the better the range and accuracy.

The reason behind this is related to the fluid sliding between the gear and the tube wall. As the viscosity of the liquid increases, the fluid slip rate drops rapidly, thereby achieving higher measurement accuracy.
